I remember it like it was…just a year ago! It was a beautiful Sunday morning. I was excited because I knew he would be pleased with the gift he had coming. As he sat at the breakfast table, eating his usual oatmeal and fruit, I hurried out the front door to retrieve the newspaper. I quickly scanned the editorial pages and found what I was looking for. Like the proud daughter I was, I simply put the paper down in front of him. I stood back, grabbed a glass of orange juice and watched his face light up!
He read the printed piece and smiled from ear to ear.
It was not everyday that his daughter had a published piece. A published piece that sang his praises as a father.
He headed out to Sunday service. He announced it to the congregation at church. As soon as church ended, he rushed out to buy as many copies of the local newspaper as he could find. He called his friends and told them about it. After I showed him how, he sent links to the article via text message. He immediately had it framed. He was so very proud of the piece and the producer. Without him saying so, I knew it was the best Father’s Day gift I could have given him at that moment. I had no idea it would be the last.
